First off, this does work as intended. It will move petroleum based liquids at approximately the stated flow rate. It is a sliding vane type pump. Internally it is metal-on-metal, no vane seals. Thus, it needs lubrication from the liquid that you're pumping. Remember that this can *not* be used with other liquids like water, cleaners, or solvents. These types of pumps are generally self priming since they do not "hold" liquid in the pump body. It takes a couple rotations to get it started. The collar fits a standard 55 gallon drum fine. The pickup tube is 3 pieces, and fits a 55 gallon steel drum just fine; I do not have other sizes, so I can't comment on that. The output tube is plain on the delivery end. You can clamp a 1" I.D. rubber hose on the end if needed. The threads on the output tube are straight and require pipe sealant (use pipe dope, not teflon tape) if you don't want it to leak.If you use it as-is, I suspect that you'll get a fair amount of contamination in your liquid at least in the beginning; stuff like sand, paint, and metal particles. Make sure you use a filter, of course.Quality is Cheap Chinese. I would give it a 1/2 star for overall quality. The whole thing is slathered in paint - tons of it. It's on the threads, there's even overspray inside the pump. The casting is coarse, and not very precise. Holes are roughly drilled, and crooked. Fasteners are like grade 1 (i.e. cheap). The internal machining is rough. Additionally, the including tubing was about the lowest quality I've ever seen. Strings of sharp metal at the ends of the threads, chattering on the threads, horrible chrome plating, etc. The threads, as far as I can tell, are British. They are not metric. Both the output (1.0 inch dia) and pickup tubes (1.25 inch dia) are cut to 19 TPI BPT. Definitely not standard.First thing I did was take it apart. There was casting sand inside. Nice. Since I have machining equipment, I honed the vanes and bore to a better finish. Replaced fasteners with better ones. Made a new handle that wasn't crooked. Ground off all the "schmeg" on the casting so that there was no contamination. I probably should have just returned it, but I like to fix things and hey it was cheap. The end result after a quick refurbish was a decent pump, somewhat smooth action. I use it to pump #2 diesel, kerosene and duo-decane aka race-diesel.I have purchased a couple of this rotary style pump from a retail tool chain store over the past few decades for pumping diesel from a drum. Both eventually failed due to a seal around the shaft. Not only does this leak and make a mess, it undermines the suction making it hard to prime as the level in the barrel drops. Neither the vendor nor local suppliers of seals have been able to replace those parts, so I bought this pump as a replacement. The second time I used this pump, it leaked worse than each of those it was meant to replace after many years of use. It would be hard to recommend this to anyone.Arrived in good condition. I did use silicone to assemble the suction pipe, and I would recommend others do as well. the threads are very crude and may cause a vacuum leak. Took a minute to get pumping, but seems to work fine, however I have only pumped 10 gallons or so. I can't speak to longevity, the waste oil I am pumping I would assume will keep it lubricated well and free from rust (cast iron). Not recommended for solvents or drinking water.Better than a regular barrel pump . It works great and they last for years instead of monthsWe bought 2 pumps and neither one worked properly! So we returned them and got 2 more however same result! Wouldn't work and wouldn't addapt to the top of 55 gallon drum properly??? nOW IT LOOKS LIKE I CAN'T GET A REFUND ON THE 2 NEW ONES ONES STILL IN THE BOX?Wow, if I wasn't so angry I would be laughing hysterically. This is absolutely the most horrible product I've ever purchased on Amazon. What a cheap knockoff piece of cr@p! DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO GET ONE DROP OF WATER OUT OF A 55 GALLON DRUM! IF YOU SCREW IN THE SPOUT IT POURS OUT DIRECTLY ON THE CRANK AND YOUR HAND. BUT IT DOESN'T WORK SO DON'T WORRY YOUR HAND WILL NEVER GET WET. It comes completely disassembled with no instructions. Mine came with three pieces of male threaded pipe and only one coupler. The bearings make a god-awful noise straight out of the box and the pump shaft is loose! AMAZON IF YOU DON'T START LETTING US FILTER BY COUNTRY OF MANUFACTURE YOU'RE GOING TO LOSE MY BUSINESS FOREVER. So now I'm left with an all-too-familiar choice throw this thing out or spend $7 worth of fuel to get into town and back to send it back and someday maybe get my money back. I think I'm going to opt for smashing the cr@p out of this thing with a sledgehammer just to make myself feel better. Robbed again! This is becoming way too familiar a story for me.Was vert slow and messy. Stopped working after 20 gallons of 0w20 oil. Very disappointing. Save your money.Pump looks to be of good quality, but is missing the lower section of the siphon tube.
