I know there are little plastic bowls or glass cups that will hold hot basting liquids for our culinary needs, but this pot is cast iron - holds whatever basting liquid, regardless of how hot, and KEEPS it hot while the main dish is continuing to bake. I've used this pot while cooking out as well as cooking in the kitchen. I even us it for drained liquid to make gravy with... indispensable!
