I really was not expecting this to work this well. I primarily bought this for the adapters soI could use them with an older OPC-478. Most of these adapters work essentially the sameway and once you have the appropriate driver installed for the cable it works with multipleprograms and radios regardless of the manufacturer.Installation was very slick on Windows 7 and it worked right off the bat on theUV-5R and FT-60. I did not have to monkey around with the Prolific driver as has beenreported by other Windows 7 users with other adapters. Apparently some of the Prolific chips (the chip insidethe USB connector that allows the translation to TTL levels required by radios) arecounterfeit Chinese knock-offs. To use these counterfeit programming cables you have to forceWindows into not doing any updates and use an older driver. I did not have to do any ofthis to get this cable working with CHIRP and with FT-60 Commander.I have not tried the cable on other radios yet.Only problem I had and I expected this is I had to cut down the four conductor adapter for the Yaesuradios for the FT-60 and VX-5,6,7,8 radios. You just have to trim down the plastic until it seats allthe way. I have gotten around this problem previously by using the adapter you can buy from Yaesuthat screws into the mic/earphone 1/8" four conductor port and splits it to a 1/8" earphone and 1/16"microphone female connector to use with older headsets and speaker mics.
